Let Go of Your Purpose

How do you find your purpose?

It is often said that in order to excel in a career or craft you must love what you do.

When you love what you do, you tune into something higher than yourself. It’s no longer about what you will accomplish, what level status you will attain, or how decorated your ego will become. It’s about the peace and joy that comes with the action.Let Go of Your Purpose

The writer who pens beautiful prose allows it to unravel through him. He does not conjure it. The photographer who takes beautiful photos discovers a unique expression in the moment captured. He does not create it. The athlete that competes seamlessly on the field allows his body to react and flow. He does not calculate his movements.

Each is lost in vastness of the moment. Each exposes something larger than themselves. They are the revealers, not the objects of revelation.

Many of us admire those who can create. We look up to them and model our actions after theirs. When I was younger, I put these types of people on a pedestal.

Today, I have come to realize that no one creates. We only channel the beauty that is already around us. Whatever energy, substance, or idea you reveal to the world already exists. It is already out there in a vast reality that stretches far beyond your network, far beyond this earth. The things you want to create are out there. They’re just waiting for you to tear down the walls and let them to come to you.

If you have “created” anything worthwhile before, you know this.

The Writer, The Photographer, The Athlete, they love what they do because their walls are down. They are thoughtless and fully immersed in the moment.

You need not obsess over your legacy or your ability to make a difference. You have stressed over that your whole life. You are constantly climbing and reaching for that cookie jar atop the fridge, but every time you get there, it’s empty. It will always be empty.

Let go of your purpose.

Surrender to the moment. Surrender to the climb.

When you do that, a huge weight will be lifted off your shoulders. When you do that, you will allow the universe to create through you.

  1. Am I right in thinking that everyone has a special place or defining moment that they’re proud of, means a lot to them, that they can’t help but bring it up?

    • Yes, I believe you are. We all have a meaningful experience that we are meant to share. Eventually, the moment will come for you to do so. However, problems arise when you are constantly seeking and awaiting that moment. It will come, fist you just need to get out of your own way.

  2. Indeed, staying with one who does not respect you is to surrender your very soul. The recovery is painfully slow. This should be required reading for every high school student. AMEN!
